20 Things I’ve Learnt in 20 Years

Even though 18 and 21 are typically considered to be the biggest age milestones to reach in western culture, I myself feel that turning 20 was also a massive event. It marked the age where I could no longer identify as a teenager, and was officially embarking on my ‘twenties’ - this is a terrifying prospect, even now when I have been this age for 4 months. Seeing it as such a personal milestone, I thought it’d be interesting to reflect on my 20 years of life, good times and bad, and see what I’ve learnt - hopefully giving my readers, both younger and older than me, some useful advice. Here goes! A rather fetching throwback to one of my cooler moments of my 20 years I think (feat. my brother definitely trying to strangle me) Don’t take life so seriously! This is something that I’ve gotten a lot better at now that I’m a 20 year old - I can laugh at myself, making difficult situations easier to handle. However, when I was younger, as young as primary school, I tended to take lif...

Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life - Track By Track Opinions

Rather than doing bog standard album reviews on here, I thought it’d be interesting to do mini opinions on an album track by track upon my first listen of it. I have listened to a few of the songs from The Wombats’ brand new release Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life, but decided to hold off and give my first impressions to the rest of the record. In future, I will ideally have not listened to any of an album when doing this to make my reaction more authentic, but let me off this time. Track 1 - Cheetah Tongue As an opener, this song is pretty strong. The opening guitar strumming as the song commences oozes with anticipation as the album kicks off. Lyrically, it’s just as whacky as any previous Wombats number; ‘you run me over/my orange colour got black flamingos/crying for you’ being a prime example. Overall, it’s a chilled start, with lots of ‘oohing’ and floaty high pitched singing, accompanied by equally chilled but impressive guitar riffing - not a bad start at all....

The Second Year Slump (help me I hate uni)

First of all, though I recognise that this is my own blog where I can (and will) rant about whatever is going on in my head at any given time, university is one thing I am weary of complaining about. I fought tooth and nail, stressing myself out severely, to gain the grades I needed to get into a highly regarded, academic uni and what’s more it’s in such an amazing central London location that means the resources available to me in the surrounding area of my campus exceed the resources of other unis. I am very lucky to have this opportunity when so many people unfortunately don’t. I would never give up my education and plan on staying in the education system for as long as possible, to utilise the amazing resources offered to me. Unfortunately, this opportunity of university study doesn’t come without it’s trials and tribulations, and I am in the midst of a very testing time uni wise, which I and other second year pessimists are calling the ‘second year slump’. My personal defin...

My Favourite YouTube Channels

Writing this blog in itself is a huge form of my procrastination, but along with listening to music, watching Netflix, and of course, napping; watching YouTube is up there with the biggest way I waste my time; but still time  reasonably well spent I’d say. The amount of people trying to make it big on YouTube is increasing at an insane rate, so it’s hard to know who is worth your time, and who is creating good original content. I’ve collated a list of my favourite channels, in the hope it will steer people in the right direction YouTube wise (aka not in the direction of Jake and Logan Paul). Samantha Maria For all things makeup, fashion and lifestyle, Samantha, or ‘Sammi’ is the gal for you. Not only is she absolutely GORGEOUS, but she has one of the best eyes for style of any fashion channel on YouTube. Everything about her hair, makeup and fashion choices inspire me constantly, and many of my purchases have been through her recommendations. What’s more, she’s recently ...
