My Favourite Songs EVER - Part 1

I am notoriously bad at picking my favourite of something. Ask me what my favourite film is, or even my favourite chocolate bar, and I’ll take a good few weeks to get back to you. When it came to music, I was sure I had things figured out, and I always find it interesting hearing about others and their favourite songs, because it’s so interesting how different everyone’s are, and the meanings behind why certain songs come to mean so much to people. When curating my list, I realised I have A LOT of favourites, so I’m gonna do this in two parts, hoping that my more musically inclined readers will be interested by my picks, and perhaps discover some new tunes to add to their fave list. Wild Horses - The Rolling Stones The Rolling Stones are a band I only ever binge listen to and then leave for months on end before returning to binge again. I have no idea why this happens, but one song that never leaves my playlists even amongst the dry periods is ‘Wild Horses’. This song is ju...

Saturdays at Borough Market

As of late, my life in uni is pretty unexciting, consisting of lectures, the library, and not much else. Because of this, I have found that early Saturday afternoon is my time to do something that isn’t work related, even if just for an hour or two. Living so close to the iconic Borough Market, visiting it at the weekend was a no-brainer, spending a lot of time there anyway throughout my time in London. It’s a hub of amazing food and drink, and such a great atmosphere to be amongst, to kick start a weekend. The market is mostly, but not completely, covered with a huge, industrial style roof, in which hundreds of stalls co-exist, with everything from paella, to bread, to fruit for sale. Turning each corner of the building means a new amazing smell, all so tempting that you never want to buy food from anywhere else ever again. Some of the most aesthetically pleasing stalls are definitely any of the fruit and veg stalls, displayed in a colourful and satisfying display that jus...

I Let My Flatmate Go Through My Phone

On this week’s instalment of ‘why on earth do I think this is a good idea’, I gave my flatmate Imogen free reign of my camera roll, picking any photos she wants and I have to explain the story behind them. So, get ready to cringe, laugh, and be simply downright confused as to why I have these things on my phone. Enjoy my suffering! Let’s get the embarrassing one out of the way first *face palm*. If you scroll back far enough on my Instagram you can probably still find this monstrosity. Everything about this makes me cringe: the poorly applied red lipstick, the not-so-subtle placement of the Kurt Cobain poster in the background to compliment the Nirvana top (that I still wear and love by the way, can’t really hate on that), and the fact that I thought it was oh so cool to pose with sunglasses indoors. I know for a fact that I thought I looked great in this and so edgy, which makes me cring even more. I don’t have the most self confidence with my appearance now, ...

The Three Greatest Rolling Stones Concerts Ever

In celebration of their recent tour announcement (and in celebration of me getting tickets to said tour, not to brag), what better way to anticipate such an event than by looking back at the Stones’ best live moments. With some questionable but enthusiastic dancing by Jagger, accompanied by the unmistakeable talent of the rest of the band, a live performance by the Stones is hardly going to ever disappoint, proven by these three iconic shows. Hyde Park, July 5th 1969 Only two days after the tragic death of former band member Brian Jones, the pressure was on the Stones to still put on a good show for the thousands who had attended just for them, without letting their grief get to them. Of course, this set was far from perfect, with Mick’s vocals being criticised, as well as speculation that the guitars were out of tune. Though this may not come to mind as the gig that showcased their talent the best, I personally think that to even show up that day and put on a decent enough sh...
