As of late, my life in uni is pretty unexciting, consisting of lectures, the library, and not much else. Because of this, I have found that early Saturday afternoon is my time to do something that isn’t work related, even if just for an hour or two. Living so close to the iconic Borough Market, visiting it at the weekend was a no-brainer, spending a lot of time there anyway throughout my time in London. It’s a hub of amazing food and drink, and such a great atmosphere to be amongst, to kick start a weekend.
The market is mostly, but not completely, covered with a huge, industrial style roof, in which hundreds of stalls co-exist, with everything from paella, to bread, to fruit for sale. Turning each corner of the building means a new amazing smell, all so tempting that you never want to buy food from anywhere else ever again.
Some of the most aesthetically pleasing stalls are definitely any of the fruit and veg stalls, displayed in a colourful and satisfying display that just begs that you buy some. 'Ted's Veg' is one of the first stalls you see when you enter the market, and it’s the perfect invitation to dive deeper into the abundance of stalls.
Another of my favourite stalls is the juice and lemonade stand (pictured below), owned by the company ‘Turnips’ who are responsible for a huge section of the stalls in the market. The cranberry lemonade is amazing, and amongst the hundreds of people perusing the market, you always see multiple people with one of their drinks. Also pictured below is a very cute part of the market, The #LoveBorough wall, where everyone gets the opportunity to write a message about the market - a very aesthetic photo background as you can see. There is such a lovely sense of community about the market, because it is essentially a group of small businesses, being offered amazing support from London; whether it be locals, Greater London residents, or of course many many tourists - it’s a buzzing venue that never fails to make me smile.

As well as so much savoury food and drinks, the market is not without its amazing desserts. Whether it be brownies, chocolate, pretty much any sweet thing you could dream of, you’ll find it here. If I bought food from here every day I’d be huge for how good everything is, and the displays, as pictured, are yet again more enticing than the last. Though the market is mainly food, plant lovers will also have a blast here, with a few plant and flower stalls being the gem of some corners of the market. Enjoy delicious food, AND buy a new house plant?! What more could you want from your Saturday afternoon.
I could probably ramble about this place for hundreds of words, so I hope my pictures do it justice. I could never take for granted that I get to make the decision to visit this place every week for lunch, simply by taking a ten minute walk from my flat. Not only is it a photographer's dream (or indeed a wannabe blogger like myself), what with the lovely aesthetic of the place, it's a great opportunity to enjoy produce outside of the norms of supermarkets, and soak up an incredible atmosphere.
I would recommend anyone who is visiting central London, and wants to see something a little different than the usual sights, to visit this amazing market, because you certainly won't regret it. Not forgetting of course that as soon as you take one look at the food, or try some for yourself, you will want to start visiting just as much as I do!
Big shoutout to Imogen for being my companion on these lovely Saturdays, and for taking the pics of me in front of the #LoveBorough wall (the back of her lovely head is pictured above).
I know I'm no photographer but I hope you all enjoyed this more picture-heavy post this week. I'd love to do this more with some of my other favourite places in London - I'm hoping to get some good shots when my friends come and visit in a week or so when I'm showing them around.
Any suggestions are welcome as always!
Love y'all
