Revisiting Old Hobbies

Hey guys, hope you’re all doing well. Today I want to talk hobbies. You know, those things we do to procrastinate from uni work, or cleaning our rooms, or whatever it might be. The things that we claim make us talented and cultured when in reality we’re just mediocre at a couple of things, instead of being very skilled at one thing. Amongst many failed attempts at hobbies, my main ones have always been music related; namely guitar. I had dabbled in other instruments, reaching grade 2 on the saxophone until giving up on my Lisa Simpson dreams. I can’t speak for the education system now, but I felt generally quite discouraged in pursuing an instrument in my secondary school. When leaving half way through an academic lesson to go to a saxophone lesson (timetabled in a way I had no control over), my teachers would always be exasperated and annoyed at me leaving. This was a huge factor in me wanting to quit saxophone - something I feel was a regrettable decision, and poor behaviour from...

Tattoo Number 2 - A Story Of Indecision

It’s Mrs Addictive Personality coming to you live. As a few regulars will know, on 30th May this year I embarked on my first tattoo journey. I call it a journey, and not lightly, because picking the design, sizing, tattoo parlour and most importantly my preferred artist in that parlour, took a whole lot of deliberation. Not to mention my continuous eternal struggle with the commitment of a tattoo, which I documented in my ‘Should I Get A Tattoo?’ post, the pain, the question as to how much I loved theology to actually get something dedicated to it. Oh, it was an ordeal.  You’d think then that the body modification craving, that I literally have not been able to get rid of since getting my bloody earlobes pierced, would be satisfied. Yet, here we are again - I want another one. For heavily tatted folks this won’t seem like a huge deal; some probably can’t imagine having just one tattoo, especially something as small and unnoticeable under clothing as my first one is (pic bel...

Today I Am Listneing To...

Howdy. I’m back from a longer-than-expected summer hiatus (blame me being either drunk or hungover far too often to be creative). I can’t promise that I’ll be totally back on my A Game of weekly uploads until I’m back to the more structured uni life, but I can promise that the blogging cogs in my brain are starting to turn again and I am getting more inspired to write once more. To ease myself into the blogging life again I’m going to start by introducing a new feature idea I have; ‘Today I’m Listening To...’ where I give a rundown of my current favourite music which some of you will hopefully find interesting. Whilst I am someone who tends to stick to the same albums for at least a couple of months at a time (pretty much until I’ve listened so much I get bored), there are songs that creep in and out of my usual playlists which I intend to document with this ongoing feature. Blackstar - Radiohead “Where do we go from here? The words are coming out all weird” Underrated? Ove...

Unsolicited Staring: A PSA

I’m back and fairly angry. Apologies for not posting last week, inspiration was low but I’m back and ready to get back into weekly posting; dedicated and posting only the best content I can. I admit that I don’t have a huge platform with this blog - it is in the grand scheme of the internet an insignificant collection of content. That being said, by sharing my blog on all of my social media platforms (being a basic millennial white girl I obviously have a few), I am confident that voicing my opinions on social issues will at least reach a big enough group of my peers to be worth while. I want to discuss something that I myself have experienced a lot as a young woman. I am conscious that what I am going to describe is something that many different categories of people have also experienced, and it is certainly not restricted by age, gender or sexuality, to name a few. I can however only speak from my own personal social place and hope that it resonates with the demographic ...

Live Review: The Rolling Stones @ Manchester Old Trafford - 5/6/2018

They say don’t meet your heroes, and they also say that those you have idolised all your life will never really live up to the expectations you build up in your head. I’d frankly like to say that when it comes to the legends that make up The Rolling Stones, ‘they’ couldn’t be more wrong. Seamless, effortless professionals with talent seeping from under their sparkly jackets, The Stones proved on this night, and indeed across their whole ‘No Filter Tour’ so far this summer, that music and performance isn’t simply a talent, it’s a gift. After being suitably introduced by The Verve’s Richard Ashcroft, with the sun beaming down on the packed and buzzing stadium, The Stones finally took to the stage with vigour and energy, ready to put on what will turn out to be an outstanding performance. Knowing how to please the crowd of adoring fans, they began with ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’, not pausing before jumping straight into ‘It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll (But I Like It)’. For men in their seventies, th...

My First Tattoo Experience

She’s only gone and done it. After weeks of deliberation over ideas, the permanence of such a thing, and whether I could handle the pain of that damn needle, on the 30th May I finally got my first tattoo. This is a monumental occasion in my life and after hinting a few weeks ago on my thoughts and ideas on me getting a tattoo, it was only right that I retell the story and my experience, and how I’m feeling about having this thing on me forever😬. How the day panned out  My tattoo appointment was at 3pm at Black Garden Tattoo on Drury Lane, not far from Covent Garden. I had visited it a few days earlier to drop of a £50 deposit and confirm my booking. It was a very small, quaint place that seemed like a relaxed and friendly environment to get a tattoo done, and whilst the buzzing sounds of the tattoo needles did intimidate me slightly, I was confident that I had chosen a respectable place for my first tattoo. On the day I understandably woke up very nervous, and made sure I a...

Life Update: Finishing Second Year, Booking My Tattoo, Getting Ready For Home

Hey gang, I hope you’ve all had a great week. I thought I’d use this week as a sort of catchup/chat with you all; this is a personal blog after all and I have to satisfy the nosy ones amongst you lol. Basically, it’s all been a bit structured recently and I just want to chat so that’s what I’m gonna do! On the 23rd I had my last exam of second year, after a long overstretched three weeks of exhaustion and stress. Ah exam season, it really is the bloody worst time of year. Overall, my exams went well (I think), and apart from one or two curveball questions (we don’t talk about those), I feel fairly confident. If any of you have read my post about my personal experience with A Levels, you will know that even saying that I think an exam went well is a HUGE deal for me, and I’m so relieved that I’m getting better at managing my stress. Hopefully by third year, I’ll be the most zen gal during exams; one can hope lol. On the subject of second year, I am SO relieved that it’s over. I’ve a...
