Can We Normalise Going To Gigs Alone?

Helloooo, So, I’ve wanted to rant about this before, but being someone who has only actually attended two gigs alone, I wasn’t sure I felt qualified. However, those two times created such absurd reactions that I just cannot help myself, and I hope that this will serve to be a reassurance to my readers that this actually is an acceptable thing to do with your time, and for those who do judge people for this, why?! Last week I decided, very last minute, that I wanted to see The Vaccines at one of their two shows at The Roundhouse. I had seen the band three times before and had always intended to buy a ticket for this tour, but put it off up until I found out that they had sold out for both dates. Out of principle, I just wanted to find a ticket now for fear of massive FOMO. So, after taking to Twitter and with a few questionable people sliding into my DMs, some with clearly no intention of helping me out but rather to either badly flirt or discuss my ‘excellent’ music taste, I fi...

My First Original Song: ‘The Colour Red‘

*squeels* Hey guys, As you might remember a good few posts ago now, I vowed that I was going to get back into playing and partially re-learning guitar, after not properly practising since I started uni. I set this promise in stone by buying a new guitar and amp to keep in my London flat and, though I have not reached anywhere close to where I want to be skill-wise, and won’t realistically be able to do that till I have escaped the perils of third year, I am starting to get better and my passion is certainly back. With this passion there has come an overwhelming feeling of wanting to write my own material, something I’ve never previously had any urge to do. Spoiler alert: it’s very difficult. My notes app on my phone is full of random ideas, whether that be chords, lyrics, even just a single phrase, and most do not amount to anything because I get frustrated if there isn’t immediately an obvious way it can be created (something I should probably work on if I want to get any ...

Today I Am Listening To...

Hey hey, I’ve been listening to a lot of new music recently and had hoped this would have been a regular feature (I have only posted one of these, I flopped sorry), BUT this is the perfect time to bring it back. I have always adored music but lately I have been gaining an ever-growing appreciation for how important to me music really is and how discovering new music is one of the most enjoyable and rewarding things that I can do in my spare time. So, I’m going to chat about some of my favourite songs of the moment, many of which I am listening to daily, and hope that it helps you discover some new music too - they’re all bops, I promise.  Edward 40hands ~ Mom Jeans. Since discovering the album Best Buds by these emo cuties, I have been loving a different one from the tracklist every few days. Right now, the rather oddly named ‘Edward 40hands’, which fits pretty well in an album with other songs such as ‘*Sobs Quietly*’ and ‘Scott Pilgrim V. My Gpa’, has it all when yo...

Tattoo and Piercing Update for 2019

Hiiiii, it’s ya girl, addicted to piercings and tattoos girl, how are we all? So, I’ve been reflecting on all the posts I make on body modifications (it really is the only interesting thing about me, I’m sorry), and yes, there sure have been a lot posted in 2018. Whilst these posts do well and often the subject is of interest to people, both fans of tattoos and piercings and people that have none at all, I don’t think that a dedicated post for every single thing I get done, or change, or whatever, is necessary every time anymore. I don’t doubt that I’ll get more things done, but I have other passions and other things I’d like to write about. In short, I just don’t want this to become the ‘tattoo and piercing blog’, yanno? That being said, I think updates every few months will just be more efficient and I can talk about a range of stuff, rather than trying to squeeze a decent sized post out of one thing and go on about stuff I’ve already covered before - there’s only so many tim...

Students Are Not Poor Anymore

For as long as university students have existed in modernity, there has always been a stereotype that they never have any money, they live in freezing cold houses and eat nothing but beans. Whilst I’d like to disclaim that many people do indeed lead very impoverish lives as students who certainly  should be admired for their resilience, there are an overwhelming amount of people who live reasonably lavish lifestyles off the back of their student loans, and can afford things that years ago would not have been possible for the average student. In this week’s post I’d like to examine from a student’s perspective, what exactly it means to be a student in 2018 - what lives are we able to live and what commodities are now within reach thanks to student loans, and is this a good or bad thing? Take me for example. I live in a central London flat. You go into my room and there’s a wardrobe completely full of clothes, a brand new Fender Jazzmaster guitar and amp, a dresser full of ...

Tattoo and Piercing Q&A

Hey gang. So, after spontaneously getting a third tattoo this week (don’t ask, I’m clearly repressing something, oh and it’s pictured below lol), and recently getting new piercings and what not, I often get asked the same sort of questions on them. They are the kind of questions that I was always intrigued about before I had any tattoos or piercings, because whether you like them or not, they certainly do spark some interesting talks and opinions. So, I asked my Instagram followers for some questions on this topic and this is what everyone wanted to hear (please don’t take my opinions as gospel, I really know nothing). Thanks for sending your questions in dudes, hope you find this helpful! Did you always want multiple tattoos or was it something that you decided after you got your first one? For sure I thought that it was going to be one and done. I was so intrigued as to what the process of getting a tattoo would be like, and had had the same idea (my hand of God one) i...

My Tribute To The Strypes

Today I woke to the news that one of my favourite bands of all time, The Strypes, had announced their split. With music released not so long ago and touring seeming to be frequent, this was not something I thought was on the cards for a band I love so much. To say I’m sad is an understatement. It felt wrong not to dedicate a post to them after this awful news, as with all the Radiohead and Led Zeppelin talk that comes with the music content on my blog, it felt right that I should write a post wholly for them, as they certainly deserve the recognition - for a personal blog I must mention the things that mean the world to me, and this band really is one of them. My first memory of The Strypes was in my best friend’s house. We were about 15 years old and finally starting to develop from the world of cheesy pop music and One Direction obsession into more alternative music. We were watching various music videos on YouTube, sharing all the ‘cool’ new music we’d been discovering, and sh...
